Week 5 - Sejahtera as Local Concept of Sustainable Development
5 April 2023
In our fifth class, we learned about the concept of Sejahtera from different perspectives and how to practise Sejahtera in our daily life. The word Sejahtera itself originates from Malay Language that defines as aman, makmur, sentosa, senang, tenteram, terpelihara daripada kesusahan. Sejahtera conveys the meaning of prosperous and prosperous, happy and peaceful, preserved from the disaster. In societal perspectives, Sejahtera means to promote peace and unity and social inclusion by reducing inequality, fostering communication, and enhancing understanding between diverse groups. From an economic aspect, it encourages wealth and economic advancement with increasing access to financial services and resources, supporting small business and producing more job employment. Last but not least, in environmental perspectives, Sejahtera means preservation and conservation of the natural environment including reducing pollution, protecting natural resources as well as promoting the use of clean and renewable energy sources.
On top of that, the Sejahtera concept is also related and included in the Madani policy framework which applies to focus on problem solving processes, creating a peaceful and prosperous future, meeting the needs of the nation, and fulfilling the potential of the people and the country.
To correlate the concept of Sejahtera with our daily life, in my perspective, Sejahtera is linked in terms of manner or attitude. Personally, when associate Sejahtera with the terms of manner or attitude, it can bring peacefulness between two parties, in case of culture, the greetings “Salam Sejahtera” that we utter, we use to greets, to bows to each other, unknowingly brings happiness to either our party or another party. So, that’s how the concept of Sejahtera becomes applicable in either my daily life or our daily life or people’s daily life.
