Week 8 - Roles of Institutions for Sustainable Development

 3 May 2023

Today's topic is mainly focused on two SDGs which are SDG 16 and SDG 17. Goal 16 is about promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. People everywhere should be free of fear from all forms of violence and feel safe as they go about their lives whatever their ethnicity, faith or sexual orientation.

High levels of armed violence and insecurity have a destructive impact on a country’s development. Sexual violence, crime, exploitation and torture are prevalent where there is conflict or no rule of law. Governments, civil society and communities need to work together to find lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity. Strengthening the rule of law and promoting human rights is key to this process, as is reducing the flow of illicit arms, combating corruption, and ensuring inclusive participation at all times.

SDG 17 calls for a global partnership for sustainable development. It highlights the importance of macroeconomic stability and of mobilising financial resources for developing countries. It also stresses the importance of trade and equitable rules for governing it.

The goal also emphasises the importance of access to science and technology, in particular internet-based information and communications technology.Sustainable Development Goals are important, world-changing objectives that will require cooperation among governments, international organisations and world leaders.

On top of that, the role of local institutions and individuals in achieving SDGs play a crucial role to achieve the goal of SDGs.For example, by carrying out local campaigns to raise awareness and mainstream SDGs its principles, also building partnerships and networks at the local level. Besides that, you can also bring your own bag when you shop.

Pass on the plastic bag and start carrying your own reusable totes.Last but not least, shop local. Supporting neighbourhood businesses keeps people employed and helps prevent trucks from driving far distances.
