Week 4 - International Framework of Sustainable Development

Image
29 March 2023     This week's class marked our 7th day of Ramadan. I am glad that our class is held online because the weather seems quite hot even in the morning. Today’s topic is more focused on the global conference that involves a few countries to discuss strategies for sustainable development. The first conference was in Stockholm in 1972 to address the issues of global environmental needs. The aim of the conference was international cooperation regarding the problem the earth’s environment was facing. Developing countries began to play a crucial role and their active participation is important because they were financially assisted to participate. Tremendous political pressure in developed countries thus protection for the environment became a political issue. Some of the countries that got involved in these conferences were in Sweden, Brazil, Japan, South Africa and Indonesia.  In the process, certain basic principles were established, first common but differ...

Week 2 - Islam & Sustainable Development

Image
15 March 2023 On 15 March 2023, the second class for this week is about Islam and sustainable developments. I still remember when my KAFA teacher told me “Indeed the wasteful are brothers of satans, and Satan is ungrateful to his Lord”. Islam absolutely prohibits wastage in every aspect of one's lives, whether it be with one's time, one's energy, or even one's food. If Allah has blessed one among His believing slaves with more than his needs, then one must be grateful to Allah. We will discuss about Islam into three principles of sustainable development which are Islam & social sustainability, Islam & environmental sustainability, Islam & economic sustainability. First, Islam and environmental sustainability. We have to ensure our environments are always green because we do not want our life to be affected. For example, if we want to build a house we should not block the sunlight to our neighbours because every individual is entitled to common resources. En...

Week 1 - Introduction to Sustainable Development

Image
8 March 2023 In the first week of class, Prof Suhaimi gave a briefing on the assignment that we are going to do throughout this semester. Then, Dr called each one of us for attendance one by one until the end of the class. Thus, we need to be alert every time our name is called during the class and this is also considered a Taaruf session for us to know each member in the class. I am really excited when joining this class as I want to know more about sustainability that gives an impact in our life. The first topic is Introduction to Sustainable Development. Before that, Dr showed us the map of IIUM, as we can see right now our university area has been not sustainable because of the development with buildings such as hostels and premises. Also, the river water is supposed to be blue but now it turns to be yellowish or brownish, which is not good for our environment. At the end of the class, Dr asks us to complete these questions to do in our reflective journal.  What is sustainable d...

Assalamualaikum. Welcome to my blog. I am Izzatul Alia Binti Isa, from Sentul Kuala Lumpur. Yes, my home is quite close to UIA. It takes about 15 minutes and about 5 km away. My matric number 2123046. Before this I am taking a Certificate in Early Childhood Education then I further my study in Diploma in Early Childhood Education at International Islamic College that is also under IIUM. I got exposed to theory a lot so I want to know deeply about human personalities, behaviour and so on , then I continue my studies in Bachelor of Education in Guidance and Counselling in my university's wishlist in Malaysia. This is one of the best decisions I ever made. Before I came here, to be honest, I was quite scared because I had high expectations about IIUM, but then I feel so grateful that in a month I was able to adapt with the surroundings. Thanks a lot to the lecture and friends that helped me through my first year here. I feel so grateful to have Prof Dr Suhaimi as my lecturer for t...
